MEET THE CAST
Ovie aka Onos
Ovie can be considered to be Wale’s antagonist. A smart Warri guy, Ovie is 28. He was born and brought up in Warri, a privilege he believes attributes to him being street smart. His parents have three children, and he is the last; he had to leave home because his father vowed not to sponsor his dream of becoming a musician, but Ovie is unwary of his career decision, so he moves out of his parent’s house and goes to live with Wale in Lawanson Lagos.
Living in Lagos can be interesting, the wildlife, the expensive standard of living, the rough road movement, pepper stew from mama put pots, long bank queues, the hot weather, the list is quite long; according to Ovie, growing and surviving in Lagos makes him believe he can survive anywhere else. Although he is interested in the Lagos life activities, he is currently broke, he knows he cannot afford some of them and keeps them on his wish list. We consider Ovie to be a cheerful and optimistic person, he faces challenges every day, but he would instead look on the bright side of life than worry about things he cannot control.
Wale
Wale is one of three Orange characters. He was born and brought up in Ogbomosho, Oyo state, where he comes from. Wale is 32. He is the first son of his family, living in the struggle of his humble background and all the opportunities that the family’s financial background has deprived him of. He blames his father for not making money which denied them the traditional title but vowed that he would make money and go back to be coroneted as the true Alaafin of Oyo. He is not an intellectual but finished secondary school and can speak English, but he comfortably communicates in Pidgin English and Yoruba. Wale moved to Lagos to hustle, where he met Ovie, with who he later lived. As a Yoruba man, his favourite food is Amala and Gbegiri, and he doesn’t mind eating them 4 times a day. Despite being a terrible cook, Wale loves to eat a lot. We catch him bragging to Ovie about being a skilful chef, cooking for himself and his family, but he only messes up everything when asked to cook. His potbelly and overweight body are easily noticeable features of him, and according to him, they are signs of a wealthy or accomplished man.
Chichi aka Omalicha
The delectable, mesmerizing Mbaise girl, Chichi is our third character. The 24-year-old was born in her hometown but after the death of her mother at the age of 10, her aunt took her to live with her in Lagos where she started her secondary school education and later proceeded to a Polytechnic for her tertiary education. Chichi had aspired to become a chartered accountant as a child but after her mother’s death parting with her father, attending an only girl’s secondary school, and becoming friends with some girls who fancied fashion and modelling, her passion and desires changed. She also dreams to marry a rich Igbo guy who will take care of her and provide everything she has dreamt of owning.
The first day Ovie tasted the food, he couldn’t stop giving her compliments, saying it was the best meal he has tasted since he came to Lagos and said they would both have a cooking contest. The next time he comes to visit for food, Chichi refused to give him any, stating he was very stingy and she doesn’t like to share anything with stingy people.
