Progression Timeline
Month 1: Building the Foundation
- Core Classroom Training: 3D Animation Jumpstart Course
- Primary Software: Autodesk Maya, Arnold Renderer
- Course Goal: Master the Autodesk Maya interface, graph editor fundamentals, timing, spacing, and the principles of animation to establish a robust foundation for character movement.
- Mentorship & Polish: None. Focus entirely on internalising the core principles of motion and completing initial classroom assignments to build your animation baseline.
Month 2: The Rigging Process
- Core Classroom Training: 3D Character Rigging Course
- Primary Software: Autodesk Maya
- Course Goal: Understand skeletal structures, joint hierarchies, skinning, and control rig setup to create functional, deformation-ready rigs tailored for complex character performance.
- Mentorship & Polish (3D Animation Jumpstart): Begin weekly 1-on-1 sessions to re-optimise your foundational animation projects. Your mentor will help you refine your timing, weight distribution, and arcs to ensure your motion principles are industry-grade.
Month 3: Character Acting (Part 1)
- Core Classroom Training: 3D Character Acting Course (Initial Phase)
- Primary Software: Autodesk Maya
- Course Goal: Apply advanced performance techniques, focusing on body mechanics, pantomime, and staging to communicate intent and emotion through character movement.
- Mentorship & Polish (3D Character Rigging): Dedicate this period to perfecting the technical functionality of your character rigs. You will work with your mentor to troubleshoot skinning issues, improve control interfaces, and ensure your rigs are clean and production-ready.
Month 4: Character Acting (Part 2)
- Core Classroom Training: 3D Character Acting Course (Advanced Phase)
- Primary Software: Autodesk Maya
- Course Goal: Master lip-syncing, facial expressions, and complex subtext, bringing characters to life with nuanced, believable performances for the screen.
