LAGOS INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF ANIMATION
The 2022 edition of the LIFANIMA event tagged “Get Animated, Season 6” was concluded yesterday. The Lagos International Festival of Animation, reported as Nigeria’s leading animation festival was established in 2017.
LIFANIMA, which has grown to become the second-largest animation film festival in Africa, is proudly supported by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and endorsed by the state Film and Video Censors Board. It is also supported by the Embassy of France in Nigeria (Story source).
It was a three-day event from Tuesday, 25 to Thursday, 27 October. While the opening two days 25th and 26th held at Freedom Park, and the final day 27th was held at Mike Adenuga Centre, Alliance Francaise in Ikoyi.
Some remarkable people present at the opening day were festival director Muyiwa Kayode, artistic filmmaker, painter, sculptor, graphic and animator Stanley Ohikhuare, renowned animators in Nigeria Richard Oboh, Dami Solesi, and Esther Gbadamosi, as well as upcoming animators.
The highlight of the entire event was:
- The Panel sessions.
- Screening of the 136 selected films
- The awards.
The panel session moderated by Esther Gbadamosi featured top animators like Richard Oboh, the MD of Orange VFX Studios, Dami Solesi, Stanley Ohikhuare, and Pete O’Donoghue. Pete is a sound expert, and he talked about the sound process. Questions about the sound in animation were answered to the best of everyone’s understanding.
A second-panel session was held on Wednesday to discuss the Future of African Animation. The panelists were Sam Onyemelukwe, Ayodele Elegba, Greg Odutayo, and Mbuotidem Johnson.
Over 1000 films were submitted for screening, 136 films were selected, and 5 awards were presented. There are 5 award categories:
- Best 2D animation
- Best 3D animation
- Best Animation Commercial
- Best Visual Effects
- Stop Motion Animation
