Character Modeller: Junior to Mid-Level

We’re seeking a talented Junior to Mid-Level 3D Character Modeler to join our team and bring stylized characters to life for an upcoming animated series. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create stylized 3D characters for an animated series using ZBrush, Maya, or Blender, from concept art to animation-ready assets.
- Execute UV unwrapping, shading, and texturing workflows tailored for stylized animation pipelines.
- Collaborate closely with art directors, concept artists, and animators to ensure models meet technical, aesthetic, and storytelling goals.
- Optimize topology and geometry for rigging and animation, balancing artistic quality with production efficiency.
- Develop vibrant textures and materials using industry-standard tools (e.g., Substance Painter, Mari) while maintaining series-specific art direction.
- Ensure consistency in character design, proportions, and style across multiple episodes and environments.
- Iterate on models based on feedback from directors and animation teams to enhance performance and visual appeal.
- Troubleshoot asset integration into the animation pipeline and support rigging/lighting teams as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- 1–4 years of professional experience in 3D character modeling (junior to mid-level; studio, freelance, or academic work considered).
- Proficiency in ZBrush, Maya, or Blender with expertise in sculpting, retopology, and UV mapping for stylized characters.
- Strong technical and artistic skills in texturing/shading workflows, including stylized PBR techniques.
- Solid grasp of anatomy, silhouette, and exaggeration principles to enhance character appeal in animation.
- Ability to interpret 2D concepts and adapt them into 3D models that align with the series’ unique visual identity.
- Portfolio showcasing stylized character models with examples of UV layouts, texture sheets, and turntables.
- Experience working in collaborative pipelines, with the agility to meet deadlines in a fast-paced episodic production environment.
Bonus Skills
- Familiarity with Substance Painter or Quixel Mixer for stylized texture creation.
- Knowledge of Marvelous Designer for dynamic cloth/hair simulation.
- Basic understanding of rigging principles or experience collaborating with rigging teams.
- Exposure to real-time engines (Unreal Engine, Unity) for pre-visualization or real-time animation workflows.
